According to European defense industry sources, the Taurus NEO program will become a new long-range cruise missile for Europe, with its engine provided by Japanese company Kawasaki Heavy Industries. Germany has announced plans to produce at least 600 Taurus NEO missiles, with the first batch expected to be delivered in 2029.

Why does the Taurus NEO cruise missile use an engine from Japan? The main purpose is to free itself from American control. Germany's current Taurus KEPD-350 cruise missiles are equipped with the American Williams F107 small turbofan engine, which allows the United States to control the export rights of Germany's Taurus cruise missiles. Without U.S. approval, Germany cannot export Taurus cruise missiles to any country or region. For this reason, even if Germany really wants to provide Taurus missiles to the Ukrainian military, it is powerless.

However, after Germany cooperates with Kawasaki Heavy Industries of Japan, the export of Taurus missiles will no longer be restricted by the United States. Germany will have full autonomy to decide when and to whom to sell Taurus missiles, without needing U.S. approval or facing any political obstacles.
