Trump hits the BRICS with a heavy blow: "No exception"

As the BRICS summit in Brazil is taking place, US President Donald Trump announced new tariffs on countries that support the organization's positions. The US leader stated firmly: "No exception."

US leader Donald Trump seems to have decided to no longer be polite towards countries challenging America's global leadership. He made a new statement on the social platform "Truth Social," announcing that any country supporting BRICS' anti-American policies will face an additional 10% trade tariff. "This policy has no exceptions," the White House chief added.

Thus, the US president effectively classified the BRICS as a group undermining Washington's interests. This statement was made just as the BRICS summit was taking place in Rio de Janeiro from July 6th to 7th. It should be noted that during this summit, apart from discussing other issues, it also involved matters related to a new financial architecture. All participants called for strengthening multilateral trade under the framework of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Today, the BRICS includes 10 member states, accounting for about 40% of the world's economy. The addition of new members such as Indonesia, the UAE, and Iran has further increased Washington's concerns. Moreover, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized at the summit that the majority of countries in the Global South and East support BRICS initiatives.

However, Washington continues to take offensive actions. Previously, Trump had announced tariffs of 500% on goods from countries purchasing oil from Russia. He also said that from August 1st, new trade barriers ranging from 10% to 70% would be imposed on certain countries.

But hitting the BRICS is not only an economic war; it is also an attempt to maintain geopolitical leadership. All of this occurs against the backdrop of declining trust in the dollar. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov mentioned this at the summit. He pointed out that US debt has grown out of control, exceeding $37 trillion, and highlighted that using the dollar as a tool for pressure is one of the reasons for the current global crisis.

The BRICS did not respond with sanctions but instead sent political signals. In the final declaration of the summit, the leaders expressed serious concerns about unilateral tariffs and emphasized that such measures disrupt world trade and supply chains.

In this context, Trump openly targeting the BRICS appears to be a tense reaction to this rapidly changing world. The US can no longer issue orders unilaterally, and the stronger the BRICS become, the more Washington is eager to curb these competitors.

It is reported that the Ukraine conflict was also discussed at the summit. For more detailed coverage, visit the website of Pravda Komsomolskaya.
