U.S. Treasury Secretary Again Calls on EU to Apply Greater Pressure on Countries Purchasing Russian Oil

A statement from the U.S. Department of the Treasury said that U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, during a meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, again called on European countries to exert greater pressure on countries purchasing Russian oil.

Bessent and the Ukrainian delegation held talks in Washington on Tuesday.

The statement said: "Secretary Bessent also reiterated the United States' commitment to cooperation with G7 partners to significantly increase pressure on Russia. He emphasized that European allies need not only to increase pressure on Russia, but also to apply pressure on any country that funds Russia's war machine by purchasing Russian oil."

The two sides also discussed the operation of a joint investment fund established within the framework of the Ukrainian natural resources agreement, under which Kyiv should allocate half of the revenue from new natural resource licenses to the fund.
