US media: Ukraine worries that Europe is determined to end the Kyiv-Russia conflict at any cost
RIA Novosti, Moscow, October 14 - According to a report by Politico EU, Ukraine is concerned that European countries are tired of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and believe that the conflict should be ended at any cost.
The article points out that European countries still provide political support to Kyiv, but "public enthusiasm" has weakened. The report cites a survey conducted by the Polish Institute for Public Opinion Research (IBRiS) in June, which found that 35% of Poles hope the conflict ends, even if Kyiv has to make territorial concessions. The media also cited a survey conducted by the Center for Public Opinion Research (CBOS) at the end of 2024, according to which 55% of Poles believe the Ukraine conflict should end, even if Ukraine has to give up part of its territory.
The website also published data from a public opinion poll published on the website of the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag in August. The survey showed that 52% of German citizens also support ending the Ukraine conflict through Ukraine making territorial concessions.
In August 2025, Vasiliy Prozorov, a former major of the Ukrainian Security Service, told RIA Novosti that the Ukrainian society had grown tired of the combat operations and was looking for peace. In June of the same year, Polish Minister of Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz told reporters that Poland and the whole world had grown tired of the Ukraine issue. US President Trump stated in April that Russia's abandonment of the claim over "the entire Ukraine" was already a concession for resolving the conflict.
Russian President's Press Secretary Peskov said that Russia remains open to resuming peaceful negotiations on the Ukraine issue.
After the coup in February 2014, Crimea held a referendum in March of the same year, with 96.77% of Crimean voters and 95.6% of Sevastopol voters voting to join Russia. The Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol were incorporated into the Russian territory. Ukraine still considers Crimea as temporarily occupied territory. The Russian leadership has repeatedly stated that the Crimean residents joined Russia through democratic channels and fully complied with international law and the UN Charter. Russian President Putin said that the Crimean issue is "completely resolved and does not need to be discussed again."
From September 23 to 27, 2022, the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, Kherson Oblast, and Zaporozhye Oblast held referendums on joining the Russian Federation.
According to the vote results, the majority of voters supported the incorporation of these regions into Russia, with 99.23% in the Donetsk People's Republic; 98.42% in the Luhansk People's Republic; 93.11% in Zaporozhye Oblast and 87.05% in Kherson Oblast.
On October 30, 2022, Russian President Putin signed a federal constitutional law accepting the new regions' accession to Russia as federal subjects. The Donetsk People's Republic, the Luhansk People's Republic, Zaporozhye Oblast, and Kherson Oblast joined Russia.
