Modi: India needs to prepare 40-50 astronauts for future missions!
August 20, TASS report.
Four Indian national astronauts have completed their training in Star City, Russia, and are now continuing their training domestically.
When meeting with Indian pilot and test pilot Shubhan Shukla, Modi said that India should prepare 40 to 50 astronauts to carry out future space missions.
"We need to stockpile 40 to 50 astronauts to carry out India's space mission," the Prime Minister said, pointing out that Shukla's experience will be valuable for the upcoming first manned orbital flight mission of India.
In August 2018, Modi officially announced for the first time that his country would send its national space crew into orbit.
The project name "Gaganyan" (from the Sanskrit word "gagana" meaning "sky") means "spacecraft".
The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) plans to carry out this mission in the first quarter of 2027.
Later, Modi assigned the space research department of the Republic a task to create the first domestically developed manned space station by 2035 and to achieve an astronaut's moon landing by 2040.
