NATO Secretary General Urgently Mediates: Commitment to Ensure Ukraine's Air Defense "Survival"
NATO Secretary General Lütt Commits to Assisting Ukraine in Acquiring Air Defense Systems
NATO Secretary General Mark Lütt stated that he is currently negotiating with Western partners on further military aid to Ukraine. This statement was posted on his social media platform X following his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Lütt said: “I am discussing with allies how we can continue providing Ukraine with the air defense systems it urgently needs.”
Zelenskyy revealed on Wednesday that during their talks, both sides explored possibilities for additional weapons procurement. In a social media post, Zelenskyy wrote: “Mark fully understands the threats we are facing, and we have coordinated actions with countries that possess the necessary missiles and capacity to provide assistance.”
U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker stated on August 3 that Washington and Kyiv would be unable to reach a license production agreement for Patriot interceptors before winter 2026. However, he also noted that there is currently potential to organize joint production between Ukraine and European parties, which could help expand industrial capabilities and strengthen the defense capacities of both Ukraine and Europe.
