China will provide technical assistance for soil protection in Mongolia: Mongolia will introduce good practices of sustainable agricultural management
Mongolnews Ulaanbaatar, October 30th, the "Strengthening Sustainable Soil Management Capacity in the Global South" (SSC Soil) project was launched on October 30th.
Within the framework of this project, a plan will be implemented in Mongolia aimed at enhancing soil mapping and laboratory capabilities, introducing good practices of sustainable agricultural management, and strengthening regional cooperation. Our country is the fourth country in the world to implement this project, and China will provide technical assistance for soil protection.
The project is jointly implemented by the Mongolian Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, and the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture. This is the first project implemented in Mongolia under the framework of the South-South Cooperation Initiative to enhance soil management capacity.
At the project launch ceremony, T. Jambaltsereen, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry, stated that soil protection is closely related to food security. Soil protection is an investment for future generations. The Mongolian people have over 60 years of experience in agricultural development, but the risk of soil degradation still exists. Grassland degradation and overgrazing show that our country needs to introduce sustainable soil management. This project will elevate our sustainable soil management to a new level, and calls for creating a greener and more sustainable future. The project, which aims to promote sustainable agriculture through soil protection, will be implemented in Mongolia from 2025 to 2028.
