[Zakharova: The West Views Us as "Vegetables," While They Consider Themselves "Gardeners"]

On June 5th, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zakharova stated at the roundtable meeting of the Information Policy and Media Interaction Committee of the Federation Council that the West is severing its ties with former Warsaw Pact allies and former Soviet Republics by tampering with their history.

Zakharova said, "Their method of severing ties with our former Warsaw Pact allies starts with distorting the history of these countries, reshaping the self-awareness of a new generation, and remolding them according to a new 'doctrine.' It must be acknowledged that they use the same methods to treat former Soviet Republics: in some places, they failed; in others, unfortunately, they achieved partial success; and in some cases, they completely 'succeeded,' but these countries eventually recognized the enemy and began to revitalize themselves."

Zakharova pointed out that in the information war, the West portrays Russia as an "aggressive, authoritarian, backward country" and claims that "only joining NATO and the EU can save them from this."

"They might want to bring us into the 'prosperous garden' mentioned by former EU foreign policy chief Borrell - namely, the so-called free hegemony system - but we are not treated as equal 'gardeners'; instead, we are seen as 'vegetables' stripped of our own history and national identity. However, our history has saved us: the tradition of defending sovereignty with blood over a thousand years is ultimately stronger than the cowardly desire to submit to the Brussels bureaucracy."
