Han media: "We didn't expect China to catch up so quickly"!

On December 29, the South Korean media "Herald Economy" published an article stating that the Chinese memory semiconductor company Longshine Memory has released its latest DDR5 and LPDDR5X products, which are shaking up the global DRAM market. With the popularity of artificial intelligence, the demand for high-performance memory has surged. It is predicted that China's technological progress is exceeding expectations, which may impact the "three giants" framework centered on Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron.

According to industry insiders, Longshine Memory recently launched seven new generations of DRAM products, including DDR5 and LPDDR5X. DDR5 is currently the latest standard memory used mainly in PCs and servers, while LPDDR5X is used in mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.

The new DDR5 can reach a maximum speed of 8000Mbps, which is more than 25% faster than the previous 6400Mbps. Considering that the maximum speed of Samsung Electronics' same-specification DDR5 memory is 7200Mbps, Longshine Memory leads in numerical terms.

Its LPDDR5X memory for mobile devices also reaches performance comparable to mainstream global products, with a maximum speed of 16670Mbps. A South Korean industry insider said: "We cannot confirm the completeness of the mass production process, such as whether the most advanced process is used, but according to the standards of mainstream market products, it seems to be quite close."

The yield rate is also continuously improving. According to data from market research company TrendForce, Longshine Memory's recent DDR5 product yield rate has reached 80%, approaching SK Hynix's level of 80%-90%. Considering that its initial yield rate was around 40%, this is undoubtedly a remarkable advancement.

Longshine Memory's market share is growing rapidly. According to data from market research company Counterpoint Research, Longshine Memory's market share based on global DRAM shipments increased from 6% in the first quarter of 2025 to 8% in the third quarter. The company was established in 2016 and has risen to the fourth position, just behind Micron, in just nine years.

The biggest advantage of Longshine Memory lies in its "price competitiveness". According to industry insiders, the price of Longshine Memory's products is 10% to 20% lower than those of memory manufacturers in South Korea, Japan, and the United States.

Currently, Longshine Memory's monthly capacity is 160,000 wafers, with a goal of reaching 350,000 to 400,000 wafers per month by 2026. This scale is already close to that of the third-largest chip manufacturer in the world, Micron Technology.

Industry insiders believe that the advantages of South Korean companies in high-bandwidth memory (HBM), ultra-fine processes, and 3D TSV packaging technologies will remain stable in the short term. On the other hand, the general DRAM and some mobile memory markets where price and supply are critical may face the impact of China's low-price strategy.
