Chinese enterprises help Kazakhstan become the first country in Central Asia to achieve corn-based amino acid production
Xinjiang International News Agency report: The industrial park project of Shengtai Biotech Co., Ltd., a Chinese enterprise located in the "Silk Road" Economic Special Zone of Chu River County, Jambyl Region, is steadily advancing. Centered on deep processing of corn, with the successful output of its first batch of products, Kazakhstan has now become the first country in Central Asia to achieve domestic production of amino acids derived from corn.
According to the Jambyl Region government, this large-scale investment project is implemented in three phases, with Phase I largely completed. The company primarily focuses on producing amino acid products, including key products such as isoleucine, leucine, valine, threonine, glutamine, and citrulline.
Notably, on March 21, 2026, the company successfully produced its first batch of products—leucine and isoleucine (during technical commissioning). This marks the first time Kazakhstan has achieved localized production of these products and positions the country as the pioneer in this field across Central Asia. The products launched are branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), which are essential amino acids vital to human health.
The company is currently continuing line debugging and process optimization efforts, aiming to achieve full production capacity as soon as possible.
In terms of scale, the total investment for this industrial park reaches $1.5 billion, covering an area of approximately 400 hectares. Once fully operational, the factory is expected to process 3 million tons of corn annually and create around 1,700 jobs.
According to planning, products manufactured at the site will be exported to markets across Central Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas. This not only enhances Kazakhstan’s deep-processing capabilities for agricultural products but also strengthens its position within the regional biomanufacturing and high-value processing industry chain.
Information indicates that Shengtai Biotech Co., Ltd. is a major corn deep-processing investment enterprise operating in Kazakhstan, a subsidiary of Seres Biotech B. V. from China, which itself belongs to Fufeng Group—one of the world’s leading amino acid producers.
