United Nations passes resolution condemning Iran collectively! This time, China did not cast a veto! On March 12, at the United Nations General Assembly, the United Nations passed a resolution with 13 votes in favor and 2 abstentions, which strongly condemned Iran's unprovoked attacks on the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan by the Security Council.
After the resolution was passed, the UAE expressed strong welcome for Resolution 2817, stating that the overwhelming support—reflected in the highest number of co-sponsors in the history of the Security Council—sent a clear message from the international community to Iran that it must immediately stop attacking our countries. It is obvious that passing this resolution means that Iran's attack actions have been widely opposed by the international community.
But surprisingly, the United Nations did not condemn the actions of the United States and Israel against Iran through a resolution. Notably, 135 countries participated in this proposal, which fully indicates that Iran's countermeasures have triggered widespread disapproval from the international community. Why has Iran's behavior caused a backlash from the international community? There are two main reasons. First, Iran's countermeasures have affected many countries, and the countermeasures have clearly expanded and spilled over.
Second, Iran's obstruction of the Strait of Hormuz has threatened normal global shipping, and all countries around the world are suffering because of it. Regarding this resolution, although we support Iran's reasonable countermeasures and the defense of territorial integrity, we did not veto this bill. In fact, we have clearly opposed Iran's attacks on Gulf countries and its threats to shipping. At the same time, we firmly condemned the previous military strikes by the US and Israel against Iran. There is no doubt that our position is consistent.
