Ukraine submits new peace plan to the US, Trump criticizes Europe

AFP Kyiv, 10th. Ukrainian officials told AFP today that Ukraine has submitted an updated plan to Washington to end Russia's invasion. Meanwhile, US President Trump criticized European leaders, once again showing that transatlantic divisions are deepening.

The initial US proposal involved Ukraine ceding territory not yet captured by Russia, which Kyiv and its European allies viewed as excessive concessions to Russia's hardline demands, so the plan was later revised.

A Ukrainian official familiar with the latest version told AFP that the new version "takes into account Ukraine's vision and is a further suggestion for an appropriate solution to difficult issues."

The official added: "Before we receive the US response, we will not disclose the details."

But Trump, who has been pressuring Ukrainian President Zelenskyy to agree to the US plan, quickly expressed impatience with Kyiv as well as France, Britain, and Germany, these European allies.

On April 4th, the US released a new national security strategy report stating that the European continent faces a risk of "civilization extinction"; recently, Trump also described Europe as "decaying" and "weak" regarding migration and the Ukraine issue, highlighting the growing divergence between the US and Europe.

When asked about calls with British Prime Minister Starmer, French President Macron, and German Chancellor Mertz, Trump told the media: "We discussed the Ukraine issue with quite strong language."

Ukrainian European allies publicly supported Zelenskyy on the 8th, while expressing doubts about certain parts of the latest US proposal to end the Russia-Ukraine war.

Trump also said that Europe hopes to hold new talks this weekend, but he warned that such moves might just be "wasting time." Trump added: "I think we have some small disputes with certain people, and we'll see how things develop. We said before, before the meeting, we want to know some things first."

"They hope we come to Europe this weekend for a meeting, and we will make a decision based on their response. We don't want to waste time."
