Japan and the U.S. Launch Island Defense Exercise "Strong Dragon 26" in Kyushu and Okinawa
The Japan Ground Self-Defense Force and the U.S. Marine Corps commenced joint military exercises codenamed "Strong Dragon 26" on Saturday, which will run until June 30, covering the southwestern region of Japan including Kyushu and Okinawa Prefecture.
The Japan Ground Self-Defense Force plans to deploy its V-22 tiltrotor aircraft stationed at Saga Base for the first time to Miyako Island in Okinawa Prefecture to conduct medical evacuation training, aiming to transport injured personnel from the island to the U.S. Marine Corps Futenma Base located on Okinawa Island.
