Poor "Kuznetsov" aircraft carrier is going to be retired.
What about the carrier pilot school?
On July 27, the Russian newspaper "Pravda" published an article.
A shocking message appeared in the media: The Russian Ministry of Defense has suspended the restoration and modernization of the only aircraft carrier "Admiral Kuznetsov" (Project 1143.5).
And in the near future, it may make a decision to finally scrap it.
Looking at the problem of the "Kuznetsov" aircraft carrier, it seems to face such a dilemma: Is it worth spending a huge amount of money to complete the repair and modernization of this aircraft carrier (launched in 1985, already aged)?
Today, these funds are not only crucial for the navy, but also essential for the entire Russian armed forces to achieve a thorough and resolute victory in the Ukraine issue?
As expected, around these issues, the shipping community immediately erupted into a heated discussion.
It now seems that the discussion may have ended, and it appears that the "Admiral Kuznetsov" really will be scrapped.
Then there is another question, the development prospects of the Russian aircraft carrier school. The aviation school relies on the "Kuznetsov" for carrier-based aircraft takeoff and landing training, and after the retirement, the school will lose its only practical platform.
Without an aircraft carrier, this school will also perish.
But could there be other ways to prevent this from happening?
For example, the "Gulf" shipyard in Crimea is currently building two large general-purpose landing ships (UDD Project 23900) ordered five years ago. One is "Ivan Rogov", and the other is "Mityofan Moskalenko".
One year ago, American reconnaissance satellites took photos, and American experts concluded that they might be aircraft carriers.
If Russia can build a new aircraft carrier, then the Russian aircraft carrier pilot school will be revitalized.
