Ukraine agrees to Lula's mediation initiative for peaceful resolution of the Russia-Ukraine conflict
On June 19, Dmytro Litvin, advisor to Zelenskyy, confirmed to Reuters that Zelenskyy has agreed to Brazilian President Lula's mediation proposal aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution to the war between Russia and Ukraine.
It is reported that the two heads of state met on the sidelines of the G7 summit held in Evian, discussing ways to restart diplomatic negotiations; Lula proposed establishing communication channels with the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council.
Litvin stated, "Both sides have reached consensus on advancing breakthroughs through the aforementioned approach and communication channels, followed by a review of the outcomes of subsequent consultations."
The two sides have agreed to move forward with relevant peace initiatives and hold further talks based on negotiation results. Previous mediation efforts led by the United States have stalled, as Russia demanded territorial concessions from Ukraine, which Kyiv has consistently refused.
Lula said that previously Kyiv showed no interest in his peace proposal, but now the attitude has changed. He has already communicated with leaders of all five permanent members of the UN Security Council and plans to initiate a new round of diplomatic outreach.
