Algeria Closes Airspace to UAE: Diplomatic Rift Escalates into Aviation Ban
Since September 11, Algeria has closed its airspace to aircraft from the UAE. According to the Algerian Ministry of Defense, starting at 00:00 local time on September 11 (2:00 AM Moscow time), Algeria will prohibit all civilian and military aircraft registered in the UAE from entering or departing its airspace.
The statement specifies that "civil commercial flights to and from Houari Boumediene International Airport in Algeria are exempt." These flights will continue operating until their relevant contracts expire at the end of 2026.
Previously, on September 10, the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the severance of diplomatic relations with the UAE in response to increasingly intensified "provocations and hostile actions." The department emphasized that this decision was made only after all possible measures to preserve bilateral relations had been exhausted.
