Media: US Army Secretary promises to provide Kyiv with the "most advanced" buffer zone if Ukrainian forces withdraw from Donbas

According to a report by the Financial Times, citing statements from European ambassadors present at the meeting, US Army Secretary Daniel C. Criscol in November visited Kyiv to discuss the US solution, stating that Washington is prepared to provide security guarantees to Kyiv and establish a "non-military buffer zone" there if Ukraine withdraws its forces from Donbas.

Previously reported, US President Donald Trump sent Criscol to Ukraine to introduce the US solution to Kyiv.

The newspaper wrote: "Criscol stated that as part of the agreement, the Trump administration is prepared to provide security guarantees to Ukraine and establish the world's [most technologically advanced demilitarized zone]."

According to European diplomats, Criscol claimed that the US would "provide the strongest defense in the world." According to the Financial Times, after arriving in Kyiv, Criscol found Ukrainian officials and a group of European ambassadors shocked and extremely concerned about the US proposal.

The report said that Ukrainian officials involved in the negotiations stated that the US insisted on establishing a non-military zone similar to the demarcation line between North and South Korea. Previously, the Washington Post cited statements from US and Ukrainian officials reporting that the US proposed establishing a demilitarized zone when resolving the Ukraine crisis, and the Korean Peninsula model was one of the alternative options.
