Bloomberg: Over 70% of Russia's population now lies within the strike range of Ukrainian drones

Ukrainian drones have reached inland cities where large numbers of people previously believed war was far away. The strike range of these drones has now surpassed 1,600 kilometers, with attacks penetrating deep into the Ural region.

Currently, a quarter of Russia's territory and three-quarters of its population fall within the coverage area of potential strikes. Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine plans to further expand its long-range deep-strike capabilities.

Frequent drone strikes by Ukraine on targets deep inside Russia have extended their reach to areas around the Ural Mountains—regions where residents had long considered war distant and irrelevant to their lives.

On April 25, a high-rise residential building in Yekaterinburg, a Russian city with over 1.5 million inhabitants, was damaged in a drone attack. This marked the first time since the full-scale conflict between Russia and Ukraine erupted in 2022 that the city suffered wartime damage. Since early April, local authorities have temporarily closed the city’s airport five times due to drone threats, suspending air traffic each time.
