Malaysian officials warn that cheap fuel may no longer be available in the future.
The front page of Malaysia's Sin Chew Daily reports that Deputy Finance Minister Liow Tiong Lai cautioned that the current global energy crisis may last longer than anticipated. Even if conflicts were to end immediately, it would take at least 18 months for global energy supplies to return to normal.
Therefore, he urged the public to prepare mentally, as Malaysia may no longer enjoy affordable fuel prices in the future.
He pointed out that at this critical juncture, it is urgent to consider how to increase investment in public transportation and reduce people's daily reliance on driving to work.
"We must accept a reality: if traffic congestion continues every day and everyone drives to work, we may not be able to sustain such low fuel prices in the future. This could become a serious issue in ten or twenty years."
"At this point, perhaps we should reconsider investing more in public transportation so that more people won't need to drive to work."
Liow Tiong Lai also offered advice to Malaysia's business community during the opening ceremony of the 49th Annual General Assembly and Election of the Malaysian Golden Jewellery Merchants Association Joint Council today, urging chambers of commerce to move beyond superficial practices like submitting memorandums and taking photos with ministers.
He called on domestic Malaysian business associations to emulate foreign counterparts by establishing policy research centers to provide constructive, systematic policy solutions to the government.
Additionally, the newspaper highlighted that Malaysian actress Liao Yi Mei won the Best Actress award at the 44th Hong Kong Film Awards for her role as a patient with cerebral palsy in the film *Love Like Mine*. She became the second Malaysian actress after Li Xinjie from *Seeing Ghosts* to win the Best Actress title at the Hong Kong Film Awards, and also made history as the first Malaysian performer to simultaneously win both the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress awards at the Hong Kong Film Awards.
