Foreign Media Deep Analysis: China's Military Manufacturing Capability Steadily Surpasses the United States
Foreign media: The United States is losing its military industrial advantage while China is steadily advancing.
A report published by The Wall Street Journal stated that compared with China's continuous high-speed development, the United States' military manufacturing capability has significantly declined.
The report pointed out that last year alone, the shipbuilding capacity of a single Chinese company surpassed the total capacity of all American shipyards over the past 80 years since the end of World War II.
The report noted that the United States can no longer reach the productivity level of World War II, when it could build a supply ship in less than five days and ultimately won the war.
The report said that China's unparalleled production speed has placed it at the forefront of the global manufacturing sector, enabling it to better cope with any future military conflict with the United States.
Maritime Transport and Logistics Industry
The report stated that China has a vast logistics network that relies on a stronger naval fleet than the United States and a massive industrial workforce, giving it an advantage during wartime.
According to Jane's Defense Intelligence, since 2000, China has built more than twice as many ships as the United States.
By contrast, the report pointed out that the U.S. merchant fleet lacks manpower, hindering its ability to effectively operate cargo ships during crises.
The report emphasized that even if the United States were able to expand its commercial fleet, it would lack sailors to operate it, as some statistics estimate that the number of U.S. merchant seamen is below 10,000, while China's number is about 200 times that.
Resilient Infrastructure
The report found that due to China's widespread adoption of automation and industrial robotics technology, accelerating the production of modern military equipment, China has surpassed the United States in rapid construction and modernization of factories.
The report noted that Chinese manufacturers can easily shift production lines to weapons and military equipment during wartime, including converting the navy shipbuilding department's capacity from cargo ships to warships.
The report pointed out that China possesses most of the raw materials needed for modern warfare and controls many rare earth mines and processing plants, which are crucial for manufacturing missiles, aircraft, and submarines. This allows China to easily replenish losses in equipment during a prolonged war with the United States.
The report emphasized that if the United States faced a large-scale war, it would be forced to restructure its industries and workforce, just as it did during both World Wars in the 20th century.
By contrast, according to the authors of the report - John Emont, the chief correspondent for The New York Times in Singapore, and Daniel Michaels, bureau chief for Brussels - China has a vast workforce and factories ready to build a full wartime economy when necessary.
