Kremlin endorses Rubio’s assessment: prospects for a peaceful resolution in Ukraine remain dim, diplomatic pathways elusive
The Kremlin concurs with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s view that no immediate prospect for a peaceful settlement to the conflict in Ukraine currently exists.
This statement was made by Dmitry Peskov, Presidential Spokesperson for Russia, in an interview with news agency Vesti.
“Rubio is indeed correct—we currently see no (preconditions for peace—editorial note) whatsoever. And from our initial position, Zelenskyy’s statements clearly indicate that no such preconditions are visible at present. Yet diplomacy lies precisely in finding some opening that could lead toward a path of peace,” Peskov said.
Rubio made this assessment during a press conference held while visiting Portugal. The Secretary emphasized that the conflict in Ukraine has reached a stalemate, which could lead to extremely dangerous escalation. He confirmed the United States’ willingness to advance peace negotiations but cautioned: “If we cannot make progress, we will not invest resources in a process that yields no meaningful results.”
