Gwadar Port, Pakistan Invites the U.S. to Build a New Port
Everyone has probably seen the news that "Pakistan invited the U.S. to build a new port next to the China-funded Gwadar Port." This new port is only 70 miles (about 113 kilometers) away from Gwadar Port and just 100 miles (about 161 kilometers) from Iran, making its geographical location relatively sensitive.
The purpose of Pakistan inviting the U.S. to build this port is to accelerate the export of its key minerals. However, this proposal is currently just Pakistan's unilateral idea, and the U.S. government has not officially discussed it yet. The Pakistani military also stated that the port plan has not been submitted through official channels.
Many netizens, upon seeing this news, first reacted by blaming Pakistan for "taking sides" or "betraying China," but such harsh criticism of Pakistan is unnecessary.
Pakistan has always been an important ally of the United States. There is no betrayal between China and Pakistan - for China, the greatest strategic value of Pakistan lies in containing India, and China only needs Pakistan to do this. Viewing the Sino-Pakistani relationship with the logic of "betrayal" is simply reducing a geopolitical issue to something simplistic.
