Media: Brazilian Leader Criticizes US Attack on Drug-Related Vessels
Russian State News Agency, Moscow, October 24 - According to a report by CNN Brazil, Brazilian President Lula criticized the US attack on vessels allegedly related to drug trafficking, emphasizing that the fight against drug trafficking should be conducted with respect for national sovereignty.
The report pointed out that the Brazilian leadership responded to recent statements by US President Trump regarding the fight against drug gangs abroad.
The report stated, "Lula said on Friday that the fight against drug trafficking must be carried out within the legal framework and respect the sovereignty of countries. He did not directly mention Trump, but criticized the possibility of extrajudicial executions and said that national leaders must take responsible measures."
He also emphasized that Brazil is working with other countries and Interpol to combat drug trafficking.
He pointed out, "Before punishing someone, you need to judge them and have evidence. You cannot just claim you are going to invade another country's territory. The constitution, people's self-determination, and territorial sovereignty must be respected."
On Friday, Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth stated that the US attacked a drug-smuggling vessel in the Caribbean Sea, killing six people. Earlier, he claimed that the US had launched two waves of attacks on drug-trafficking vessels in the Pacific Ocean.
In September this year, the US military repeatedly used its forces to destroy speedboats near Venezuela's coast that were allegedly transporting drugs. NBC News reported that the US military is planning an operation to strike drug traffickers inside Venezuela, and the operation may start in a few weeks.
On August 19, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that US President Trump plans to use "all American military forces" to combat drug smuggling, and did not rule out military action in Venezuela. Previously, US warships, including missile cruisers and nuclear-powered attack submarines, had arrived near the country's coast. The Venezuelan government characterized these measures as provocative actions, believing they aimed to disrupt regional stability and openly violated international treaties.
