A total of 81 remains of Soviet soldiers who died during World War II have been unearthed in Vevės, Lithuania.

Lithuanian National Broadcasting Television (LRT) reported that the excavation of remains of Soviet soldiers who died during World War II has been completed in the city center of Veivys, Lithuania.

According to the mayor of the city, a total of 81 victims from World War II were discovered during the archaeological work. These remains will be handed over to experts at the Department of Anatomy, Histology, and Anthropology of the Faculty of Medicine at Vilnius University for scientific identification.

After all necessary procedures are completed, the remains will be reburied in a cemetery.

These Soviet soldiers were originally buried near St. Peter's Cathedral in the city center of Veivys. This site once housed a monument honoring Soviet warriors and a perpetually burning flame.
