Lithuania: Russia, Unable to Triumph on the Ukrainian Front, Might Target Easier Targets
Lithuanian Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas said in an interview with LRT Radio that, since Moscow cannot easily conquer Ukraine, Putin might attempt to spark a "small-scale victory battle" elsewhere to satisfy public expectations—potentially targeting Lithuania and Poland:
"Russian society has begun questioning the Kremlin government about why this situation has arisen and where the promised victory is... Putin needs a new escalation and some kind of fresh triumph; in this context, the Baltic states and Poland could be the most immediate targets."
On the other hand, Lithuanian Chief of General Staff Remondas Vaishnoras attempted to reassure the public:
"In my view, at present, the threat level of Russia launching aggression or creating risks using conventional weapons is not high."
