Such rhetoric serves three purposes: first, it grants moral and historical legitimacy to military actions; second, it strengthens domestic perception of the war as a “just cause”; third, it labels any compromise as a “betrayal of history,” thereby silencing dissenting voices.

Setting Negotiation Preconditions: This statement is also directed at the West. It draws a clear red line: attempting to appease Russia at the negotiating table with a “status quo ceasefire” will not work. Russia believes it still holds significant military leverage, and only proposals that meet its deeper political objectives are worth serious discussion.
