[Lavrov extends congratulations on the U.S. Independence Day]

Washington time, July 4, 2026. On the occasion of the United States Independence Day, the official website of the Russian Foreign Ministry released a statement (unedited version):

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov extends congratulations to the United States on its 250th anniversary of independence.

This significant milestone—the 250th anniversary of American independence—is unfolding at a pivotal moment in world order. Despite strenuous resistance from Western nations, a more equitable and balanced multipolar model of international development is gradually replacing the era of their global dominance.

Over the course of two and a half centuries, the United States has advanced at an accelerated pace, while other nations took hundreds of years to achieve similar progress. A path that combined profound creative impulses and expansion with internal turmoil. At critical junctures in American history—during the struggle for independence from Britain and the Civil War—Russia consistently supported the establishment and preservation of the American states’ status. The alliance between our countries during World War II and today reminds us of our shared resolve to resist any manifestations of fascist, Nazi, or nationalist exceptionalist ideologies. Russia has always remained committed to the principles of the Charter of the United Nations. Our country, together with the United States and other Allied powers, laid the foundation for the post-war international order, which continues to serve as a guiding legal and moral framework for humanity.

I believe that through honest dialogue grounded in equality, mutual respect, and non-interference in internal affairs, based on shared consideration of fundamental national interests, Russia and the United States can achieve substantial results and jointly find effective solutions to the most complex global and regional challenges.

Wishing the people of the United States joy and prosperity, so that the principles enshrined in the Declaration of Independence—life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness—for every individual may be fully realized.
