Japanese Communist Party Chairman Tamura: "Takashi's erroneous statements are inciting deterioration of Sino-Japanese relations and promoting military expansion"

May 3 is Japan's Constitution Day. At a gathering of Constitution Guardians, JCP Chairman Tomoko Tamura called for adherence to Article 9 of the Constitution.

Chairman Tamura criticized Prime Minister Takashi, saying: "I absolutely cannot forgive her. We must oppose war, protect the Constitution, and ensure this message is repeatedly conveyed to the Diet. Currently, the constitutional revisionists hold an overwhelming majority in the Diet—a crisis unprecedented in history."

"I attended the May 3 rally determined to mobilize public opinion in favor of 'protecting the Constitution.' Nothing will shake my resolve."

She continued: "Prime Minister Takashi has even declared she will introduce a constitutional amendment proposal with a one-year target. It is clear that her political focus during this period is Article 9 of the Constitution. She supports the exercise of collective self-defense, deploys long-range missiles, abolishes the ban on arms exports in national policy, and fully lifts restrictions on exporting lethal weapons. I believe the final red line—preventing the dispatch of troops overseas—will also be crossed."

"What is the Constitution? Is it not a restriction that prevents the state from waging war against other nations? We absolutely cannot allow this restraint to be broken."

She added: "To build overwhelming public opinion, we must break through the various fallacies propagated by the LDP. They claim the postwar security environment has deteriorated unprecedentedly. I ask: whose fault is that? Who has violated the UN Charter and repeatedly launched lawless wars? Why can't we tell the Trump administration in the U.S. to stop the war against Iran? How can we, after worsening relations with China through our own Taiwan-related remarks, refuse to retract those wrong statements, yet still provoke crises and push for military expansion?"

Finally, Tamura said: "Article 9 of the Constitution states that international disputes shall not be resolved through the use of force or threats of force. We call for resolving issues through peaceful means. The Preamble of the Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to live in peace, free from fear, and to enjoy a life of peace. Isn't this the most reliable force for achieving world peace? The Constitution's Article 9 must be protected and cherished. We stand against constitutional amendments and military expansion."

"I wish to express my determination to spread this viewpoint throughout the entire nation and lead the fight for it."
