The Bahraini Foreign Minister said that oil tanker traffic passing through the Strait of Hormuz has declined by more than 90%.

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched multiple strikes against targets inside Iran, including an attack on Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties. In response, Iran carried out retaliatory missile strikes on Israeli territory and U.S. military targets in the Middle East. The escalation of the Middle East conflict led to the de facto blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, reduced oil production in several countries in the region, and a surge in energy prices in March.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical passage for Gulf states to export oil and liquefied natural gas to global markets, with about 20% of global oil, petroleum products, and liquefied natural gas supplies passing through it.
