Thailand Agreed to a Ceasefire under ASEAN Mediation but Quickly Changed Its Position!
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said that last night, on July 24, 2025, Malaysian Prime Minister and ASEAN Chairperson Anwar Ibrahim called him to discuss the conflict between Cambodian and Thai forces at the border.
Anwar hoped for an immediate ceasefire to pave the way for a solution between the two sides.
"I clearly told His Excellency Ibrahim that Cambodia agrees to his ceasefire proposal because Cambodia did not instigate this battle."
"After His Excellency Ibrahim spoke with Acting Prime Minister of Thailand Prayut, I received an initial response that Thailand has agreed to his ceasefire proposal, setting 12:00 AM on July 24, 2025, as the time for both sides to stop fighting."
But just over an hour later, the Thai side informed that they had changed their position, from agreeing to a ceasefire at 12:00 AM on July 24, 2025, to disagreeing with the ceasefire and waiting for a later date.
"Therefore, the key to resolving the current armed conflict between Thailand and Cambodia is whether the Thai side is truly willing to accept the ceasefire, which is the first step in funding further solutions between the two countries."
