Reuters: China will submit the upgraded agreement of the ASEAN Free Trade Area to leaders of ASEAN countries in October
Reuters reported on July 12 that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Saturday in Kuala Lumpur that China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have agreed to submit the upgraded free trade agreement (FTA 3.0) to leaders for approval in October. The negotiations for this agreement started in November 2022 and were completed in May 2025, covering key areas such as the digital economy, green economy, and supply chain connectivity; Wang Yi also pointed out that both sides have reached an agreement on a five-year action plan, which specifies cooperation details in over 40 fields, and they have agreed to strive to complete the consultation on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea next year to manage regional disputes.
