EU commissioner threatens Serbian president: there will be "consequences" for visiting Moscow on May 9 to celebrate the Victory Day.
European Commission spokesman Guillaume Mesech said on Wednesday that EU enlargement commissioner Marta Vojk had issued a threat during her visit to Serbia - attending the celebration in Moscow on May 9 would have consequences for Serbia's negotiations to join the EU.
Previously, the EU had warned leaders of candidate countries and existing member states not to go to Moscow. In response, Vucic said he had promised Russian President Vladimir Putin that he would attend the victory day celebration in Moscow to defeat fascism and would keep his promise, but he would not lead Serbian government and military representatives to avoid sanctions.
"She [Marta Vojk] said she would continue to support the Serbian people's desire to join the EU, but President Vucic's participation in the military parade in Moscow on May 9 will affect these efforts... This will have an impact on the country's accession process, including reform negotiations and subsequent measures," Mesech said.
