China News Service Chengdu May 19th, (Chen Su Wang Mengyao), the 28th International Committee on Large Dams Conference and the 93rd Annual Meeting were held in Chengdu from May 16th to 23rd. Wan Jinsong, Vice Administrator of the National Energy Administration, said during the meeting on May 19th that China has made major breakthroughs in the frontier core technologies of large dams.
Wan Jinsong stated that hydropower, as an important clean renewable energy source, has excellent long-term storage capabilities and is a key cornerstone for energy transformation, effectively driving high-quality development of new energy sources.
He pointed out that currently, China has completed and put into operation a number of world-class large hydropower projects such as the Three Gorges, Baihetan, Xiluodu, and Wudongde, owns milestone dams like the highest concrete double-curvature arch dam Jinkeng No.1 Dam and the highest concrete-faced rockfill dam Shuibuya Dam, and has achieved significant breakthroughs in major key technologies and frontier core technologies including high dam seismic design, ultra-thick overburden foundation treatment, and construction of giant underground cavern complexes.
"Chinese hydropower has become a beautiful business card showcasing China's technological development level worldwide," Wan Jinsong said.
Along with technological progress, China's dam safety management mechanisms are becoming increasingly perfect. Wan Jinsong noted that under recent circumstances of frequent extreme weather occurrences, China's high dams have never experienced a dam failure accident, providing stronger energy satisfaction and security for the country.
Wan Jinsong expressed that in the future, the National Energy Administration will coordinate energy security and green transformation, seize development opportunities, strengthen innovation leadership, and promote high-quality hydropower development. (End)
