Hegseth stated that he met with Cambodian Defense Minister Dith Pran in Malaysia.

Hegseth wrote on social media platform X: "We have agreed to resume comprehensive bilateral military exercises with Cambodia."

In June 2024, the U.S. Department of Defense released a press release regarding then-Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin's one-day visit to Cambodia, stating that Cambodia and the United States agreed to strengthen cooperation in defense and security fields.
