US Media: The US is on the brink of a full-scale war with Iran
The Washington Post quoted a US official as saying that, following the deaths of US servicemen in Iraq and Jordan, the United States is approaching the edge of a full-scale war with Iran.
According to the report, the Pentagon has begun increasing the number of military aircraft deployed in the Middle East. At the same time, due to dwindling air defense systems and long-range ammunition stockpiles, as well as damage sustained in combat limiting the ability to reinforce troops and aircraft in the region, expanding military operations could become complicated.
The official told The Washington Post that the United States lacks the resources necessary to conduct military operations safely.
Iran and the United States signed a memorandum of understanding remotely at around 2 a.m. on June 18. The memorandum stipulates the end of the military conflict that began on February 28, and establishes a timeline for the US lifting its maritime blockade and Iran restoring navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
Since July 8, the US military has launched multiple rounds of strikes against Iran. The US Central Command stated this action was a response to suspected Iranian activities targeting merchant vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz. In turn, the Iranian military carried out retaliatory strikes on US bases in several Middle Eastern countries.
On July 9, President Trump stated that the ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran was no longer valid.
