Taiwan's defense department avoids commenting on rumors of the Trump administration halting military aid to Taiwan
The Washington Post reported on September 18, citing sources, that U.S. President Trump has refused to approve a $400 million military aid package to Taiwan. The Taiwan regional defense department stated that it would not comment on unannounced plans.
According to the "China Times News" in Taiwan, on September 19, the Taiwan defense department said that Taiwan and the U.S. maintain a close security cooperation mechanism, and all exchange programs are carried out according to schedule to build a complete defense system. For any aid (or sales) plan to Taiwan that has not been officially announced by both governments, the Taiwanese side will not make comments.
Sources told the Washington Post that the aid packages under discussion, including drones and ammunition, would be stronger than previous ones. However, the White House stated that no final decision has been made on this matter yet.
