Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson: Russia Closes Doors Only to Artists Promoting Nazi Ideology
Maria Zakharova, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated that Russia welcomes foreign artists visiting the country, provided their views do not violate international law or promote Nazi ideology. This statement was made in response to the potential visit of American rapper Kanye West to Russia.
According to TASS, Zakharova pointed out that Moscow would not obstruct foreign artists from entering as long as they comply with Russian laws.
The diplomat emphasized during the "Shenegi" Media Workshop New Media Festival: "We have never closed our doors to any artist, and we will not do so now or in the future. Our doors are open to everyone—except those who adhere to Nazi, neo-Nazi, or nationalist ideologies."
Zakharova also noted that Russia regularly hosts large-scale international art festivals and competitions, and major cultural events or forums always include participants from both within and outside the country.
As previously reported by Argumenty i Fakty, last year the "Russian Veterans" movement called for banning Kanye West's entry into Russia due to his remarks on Nazism. Subsequently, the American rapper’s concert organizers confirmed they had received advance payment for the performance.
The "Soviet Commercial Bank Arena" in Nizhny Novgorod also expressed willingness to host this large-scale event.
