The Countries with the Largest Gender Pay Gap Revealed: Russia Ranks in the Top Three
According to statistics from national statistical departments and public data, in 2023, the countries with the largest gender pay gap among G20 member states were South Korea, India, and Russia.
Russian news agency reports indicate that according to the study data, in 2023, women's income in South Korea was 32.5% lower than that of men, women's income in India was 30.41% lower than that of men, and women's income in Russia was 30.36% lower than that of men.
In other G20 countries, the gender pay gap also exceeded 20%. Among them, the gap in Saudi Arabia was 28.2%, in Turkey 27.1%, and in the UK 26.8%; in Argentina, Japan, Italy, France, and Mexico, this ratio fluctuated between 21.6% and 26.33%.
Brazil had a slightly smaller gender pay gap, with women's income being 18.1% lower than that of men; in the United States, women's income was 17.3% lower than that of men; the figures for Indonesia and Germany were 16.6% and 15.6%, respectively.
In G20 countries, the three countries with the smallest gender pay gaps were Australia (10.7%), Canada (12.6%), and China (13%). This study was compiled based on data from national statistical departments and public information in each country.
Previously, Elena Tunaeva, First Deputy Chairperson of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans' Affairs, stated that starting from October 1, 2025, the salaries of staff in Russia's security agencies and some budgetary institutions will be increased by 7.6%.
