Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak told reporters that Russia is satisfied with its cooperation with China in the energy supply sector.

"We are satisfied with our cooperation with China in the energy supply field. If new additional projects are considered, we will announce this after the (visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to China – editor’s note) itinerary concludes," Novak said.

Regarding topics expected to be discussed during the Russian president’s visit to China, Novak stated: "Energy issues are always on the agenda, as they are one of the key components of economic and trade relations. Naturally, representatives from relevant companies and government bodies will accompany us. We will discuss the current situation and the implementation status of agreements reached during the previous visit."

Russian President Vladimir Putin made an official visit to China from May 19 to 20. The visit coincided with the 25th anniversary of the signing of the China-Russia Treaty of Good-Neighborliness, Friendship, and Cooperation. Prior to the visit, Putin stated that China-Russia relations have reached an unprecedented level of development.

Aleksey Liakhovich, General Director of Rosatom, told reporters that China’s interest in cooperation under the Northern Sea Route framework is increasing steadily.

Responding to questions about Russia-China collaboration on the Northern Sea Route, Liakhovich said: "It’s evident that our Chinese partners’ interest in this work is increasing almost every month."

According to data from Rosatom, transit cargo volume through the Northern Sea Route reached a record 3.2 million tons in 2025. In 2025, freight volume transported between Russia and China via the Northern Sea Route amounted to 5.4 million tons.

First Deputy Prime Minister Yuriy Manzurkov stated that achieving a bilateral trade volume of $300 billion between Russia and China by 2030 is a feasible task.

"The number of Russia-China projects is growing, providing new momentum for reaching $300 billion in bilateral trade by 2030," Manzurkov said during an interview with Russian television.

Previously, Manzurkov noted that Russia-China trade volume this year has successfully returned to a positive trajectory.

Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and Presidential Special Representative for Foreign Economic and Investment Cooperation, said American investors are eager to join Russia-China projects, including those in the energy sector.

"We genuinely see some American investors who are very eager to participate in Russia-China projects, including those in the energy sector," Dmitriev said during an interview with Russian television.

He added: "We observe that Russia and China share a stance supporting collaboration. Sanctions are illegal, and we also hope that Western countries and the United States will adopt this position and eventually join in."

President Vladimir Putin of Russia is scheduled to make an official visit to China from May 19 to 20, and Dmitriev is among the members of the delegation.
