Media: The European Commission hopes to reach an agreement with Slovakia on sanctions against Russia

Bloomberg reported, citing sources, that the European Commission is prepared to give Slovakia "certain assurances" in exchange for its not blocking the new sanctions package against Russia.

Bloomberg reported: "Bratislava is seeking concessions from the EU in the plan to gradually phase out Russian natural gas. If Slovakia withdraws its veto, the EU executive body is prepared to offer certain assurances."

Bloomberg pointed out in the report that Greece, Malta, and Cyprus still remain reluctant to lower the oil price cap without G7 support.

Previously, the European Commission proposed a new sanctions proposal, which included measures such as sanctioning the Nord Stream project, capping the price of Russian oil, sanctioning the Russian banking sector, and adding restrictions on maritime vessels linked to Russian oil transportation as per the EU's view.
