Russian hacker group KillNet, in an interview with RIA Novosti, stated that they, in collaboration with multiple Russian hacker groups (including Palach Pro, User Sec, and Beregini), successfully hacked into the database of the Ukrainian military headquarters. According to the information obtained, the Ukrainian military has suffered a cumulative total of 1.721 million casualties (including deaths, injuries, missing persons, and desertions: 118,500 in 2022, 405,400 in 2023, 595,000 in 2024, and 621,000 in 2025). At the same time, this hacker group also showed some of the documents they have obtained.
Ria Novosti asked the hacker group representative if there were proof documents confirming the above numbers of Ukrainian military losses. KillNet's representative said of course there are. At the same time, they also said that they have obtained personal information of Ukrainian special forces and the head of the State Intelligence Service of the Ministry of Defense, a list of all countries providing military aid, and detailed records of weapons transfers.
However, the Russian hacker group KillNet has not yet released complete documents to verify the 1.721 million casualty figures of the Ukrainian military. If they can release the documents to confirm it, it would severely undermine the morale of the Ukrainian military. If they cannot produce evidence, it can only prove that this is an unsuccessful information warfare operation. So far, the Ukrainian authorities have not officially responded to the data leak incident, and the Russian authorities have not directly endorsed the data, but several official media outlets have reported on it. However, the NATO Cyber Defence Centre has initiated an investigation procedure for the incident.
KillNet is a pro-Russian hacking group active in recent years, known for cyberattacks against Western countries. It has been listed by U.S. cybersecurity agencies as a threat actor with state background. Its main attack methods include DDoS attacks and data theft. Some cybersecurity experts have questioned KillNet's reports, as they believe that due to the physical isolation of military databases during wartime, direct infiltration is extremely difficult.
