Iran's president promised to resolve the issues and accused the US and Israel of inciting unrest
Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian pledged to solve the problems with all possible efforts and accused the US and Israel of orchestrating the riots.
In an interview program broadcast on Iranian television, the Iranian president said: "We are prepared to resolve the issues in all possible ways... Addressing the people's concerns is our responsibility, but our more important duty is to prevent rioters from destroying society."
The Iranian president said that after the conflict between Iran and Israel and the US in June 2025, "enemies" attempted to exacerbate turmoil within and outside Iran.
He added that those involved in the riots burned markets and mosques and killed civilians.
Pezeshkian said that recent events were regrettable.
The son of the deposed Iranian king, Reza Pahlavi, posted a video on social media platform X on Saturday, in which he called on Iranians to participate in a nationwide general strike. The strike aims to occupy and control strategically significant streets and facilities. He had previously called on US President Donald Trump to intervene in the Iranian situation.
Trump threatened the Iranian government on Saturday evening, saying there would be consequences if protesters were killed, and emphasized that the US was ready to "help" Iran.
Since Pahlavi issued his call on January 8th, protest activities in Iran have intensified.
