Trump has received a briefing on plans to attack Iran
Is Trump really preparing to attack Iran again?
According to the New York Times, recently Trump received a briefing on new plans for a military strike against Iran, and he is seriously considering whether to fulfill his previous threat to suppress Iranian protesters. However, no decision has been made yet.
A U.S. official revealed that they must be careful to avoid the backlash of military strikes, such as boosting public support for the Iranian government or triggering a series of retaliatory strikes, which could threaten U.S. military and diplomatic personnel in the Middle East.
However, this cautious statement by the U.S. official is a false premise. Once the United States carries out an air strike or any form of military action against Iran, it will inevitably trigger a strong retaliation from Iran. A typical example is last year when the U.S. military conducted an air strike on an underground nuclear facility in Iran, and Iran immediately retaliated against the U.S. military base in Qatar.
Nevertheless, this does not mean that Trump will not attack Iran; on the contrary, he is likely to launch a military operation soon to demonstrate a tough stance.
The Daily Mail added more insider details, stating that Trump had originally planned to take action against Greenland, but was stopped by some senior U.S. military officers, who believed the move lacked congressional support and was "crazy and illegal," so they tried to divert Trump's attention with other major military actions, "like dealing with a five-year-old child."
Additionally, another deep reason behind Trump's plan to attack Iran is that the incident of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents killing an American citizen was too severe, leading to the effect of the military operation to abduct Maduro being almost wasted. Therefore, Trump can only use external military force to demonstrate the image of "keeping promises" to boost the Republican Party's support and prestige before the election.
