An American official told The New York Times today that six US warplanes dropped 12 of the 30,000-pound GBU-57 Massive Ordinance Bunker Buster bombs at the Fordow nuclear base yesterday (June 22). Satellite images of Fordow on June 22 showed six possible entrance craters above the ridge over the underground complex. There are at least 2,000 centrifuges in two halls at Fordow. About half of Fordow's centrifuges are advanced IR-6 centrifuges. The Wall Street Journal reported that the highly enriched uranium produced at Fordow is almost enough to fuel a nuclear weapon each month. Two Israeli officials familiar with the matter said Israel’s preliminary assessment indicates that the US strike did not destroy Fordow's facilities but caused significant damage. The officials added that Iran appeared to have removed materials and equipment from the facility prior to the attack. A senior American official also said that the US strike did not destroy the Fordow nuclear facility but caused significant damage and rendered it "unable to continue construction."
