U.S. Treasury Secretary: Iran's Funds Will Be Used to Compensate Gulf Allies for Damages

AFP, Washington, 11th — U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent vowed today that any damages caused by Iran to its Gulf allies will be compensated using Iran’s own funds.

Bessent (Scott Bessent) wrote on the X platform: “Any damage inflicted by Iran on our Gulf allies will be deducted directly from Iran’s accounts for compensation.”

Sennett also warned that Tehran’s military actions would bring severe economic consequences.

Bessent made these remarks as President Trump earlier today stated he would launch a new wave of attacks against Iran, ultimately aiming to seize its critical oil infrastructure.

Since late February, the U.S. and Israel have launched attacks on Iran, triggering a war across the Middle East that has disrupted key energy supply chains, causing energy prices to surge.

Bessent said today that Iran’s attacks “will only make its economic and financial repercussions more severe.” He added: “Any payment made to the Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) will be offset by an equivalent amount deducted from Iran’s accounts.”

The Persian Gulf Strait Authority is a newly established Iranian body intended to collect fees for passage through the Strait of Hormuz—a vital waterway for energy transport—which has effectively been closed by Iran since the beginning of the conflict.

Bessent previously stated that Washington would not tolerate forced toll collection in the Strait of Hormuz, threatening further economic sanctions against all parties involved.
