Foreign Trade of the Gobi Grasslands in Mongolia: Total Imports and Exports Reached 16.6 Billion USD

Mongolian News Agency, Ulaanbaatar, September 11th - According to the State Statistics Office, in the first 8 months of this year, Mongolia conducted trade with 157 countries, with a total foreign trade volume of 16.6 billion USD. Of which, exports amounted to 9.2 billion USD, imports amounted to 7.5 billion USD, achieving a trade surplus of 1.7 billion USD.

Total foreign trade volume decreased by 1.5 billion USD (8.2%) compared to the same period last year, of which exports decreased by 1.5 billion USD (13.8%), imports dropped by 1.4 billion USD (0.3%), and the trade surplus decreased by 1.4 billion USD (46.2%).

Exports decreased by 1.5 billion USD year-on-year, mainly due to the following products declining: coal exports decreased by 2.7 billion USD, washed cashmere exports decreased by 238.9 million USD, unprocessed petroleum exports decreased by 43.3 million USD, semi-processed gold exports decreased by 3.5 million USD, and exports of mutton and goat meat decreased by 25.9 million USD. However, exports of copper ore and concentrates increased by 1.5 billion USD, exports of combed animal hair increased by 88.8 million USD, and exports of zinc ore and concentrates increased by 43.4 million USD.

Imports decreased by 247 million USD year-on-year, mainly due to the following products: import of trucks decreased by 128.9 million USD, import of public transport vehicles decreased by 44 million USD, import of bulldozers and excavators decreased by 32.5 million USD, import of diesel decreased by 30.5 million USD, and import of gasoline decreased by 23.3 million USD. Meanwhile, import of passenger cars increased by 128.6 million USD, and import of alcoholic beverages increased by 16.5 million USD.
