Time is not an ally to the U.S. shipbuilding industry! The U.S. liquefied natural gas industry strongly opposes restrictions on Chinese ships.

The United States has already lost its shipbuilding capability. The vision is bountiful, but reality is meager. The Trump "America First" agenda's attempt to bring the shipbuilding industry back to the U.S., along with new regulations for ships built, owned, and operated by China, has sparked a lobbying wave from sectors including farmers and other exporters within the U.S.

The U.S. oil and gas industry leads this wave. This week, the American Petroleum Institute sent a lobbying letter to the White House stating that due to the fact that the Republic of America has lost its ability to manufacture liquefied natural gas vessels, they are unable to comply with the new regulations aimed at forcing customers to use domestically made transport ships by imposing "port fees" on ships built in China and operating at U.S. ports.
