The opening ceremony for Cambodia's National Road No. 71C, built by Shanghai Construction Engineering Group Co., Ltd., was held on December 12 in Tbong Khmum. Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia, Chhin Vannarith, Minister of Public Works and Transport, and Wang Wentbin, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, attended the ceremony.
In his speech, Hun Sen stated that Cambodia's National Road No. 71C is crucial for promoting transportation and cargo transport, and will play an important role in boosting local economy and tourism development.
Hun Sen said that China is an indispensable friend of Cambodia, a recognized top partner, supporting Cambodia's development in various fields and under different circumstances. The Belt and Road Initiative aligns with Cambodia's "Five Point Development Strategy," achieving mutual benefits and win-win outcomes.
Chhin Vannarith said that Cambodia's National Road No. 71C complements the already completed China-Cambodia Friendship Bridge, not only improving transportation conditions but also closely connecting people living in this densely populated area through cultural exchanges and trade activities, truly building a bridge toward hope and development.
Wang Wentbin stated that over the past few decades, China has helped Cambodia build more than 4000 kilometers of roads and over ten bridges. These well-connected roads and bridges spanning the Mekong River and Tonle Sap River have not only facilitated the lives of Cambodian citizens but also injected strong momentum into Cambodia's development, serving as vivid examples of the alignment between the Belt and Road Initiative and Cambodia's "Five Point Development Strategy." They are indeed bridges of cooperation and roads of opportunities.
It is reported that Cambodia's National Road No. 71C is 114.9 kilometers long, connecting Tbong Khmum Province and Kampong Cham Province, and is an important part of Cambodia's central-eastern road network.
