Han media: "Xiaomi sold 500,000 electric vehicles faster than Tesla!"

On March 21, the South Korean media "Seoul Economic Daily" published an article stating that recently, the world's largest telecommunications exhibition MWC 2026 was held in Barcelona, Spain. Chinese company Xiaomi held a new product launch event. In addition to launching a new smartphone, the company also announced its electric vehicle strategy.

At this event, Xiaomi President Lu Weibing introduced the company's major achievements of the previous year. He emphasized that Xiaomi's electric vehicle performance exceeded expectations. Lu Weibing said: "By the end of 2025, our delivery volume has exceeded 500,000 units. Xiaomi reached this milestone in just 608 days, compared to Tesla, which took 700 days after entering the Chinese market to reach this milestone."

Previously, China was the core market for Tesla electric vehicles. When the Shanghai Super Factory was completed in 2019, China's share in the global total production was already much higher than the current level. Moreover, at that time, there were no competitors for Tesla in the Chinese electric vehicle market.

However, Xiaomi announced that the speed at which its domestic electric vehicle sales broke through the 500,000-unit mark exceeded that of Tesla. Xiaomi's first electric vehicle, SU7, was launched in March 2024, and its design, which resembles the Porsche Taycan, has attracted attention.

Xiaomi claimed that the SU7 Ultra surpassed the Porsche Taycan Turbo in acceleration and top speed, becoming "the fastest mass-produced four-door car in the world so far." Xiaomi Chairman Lei Jun said: "The original intention of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is to create a new luxury car that fits the trend of the times. Our goal is to match Porsche in performance, match Tesla in technology, and compete with brands like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi in terms of luxury."
