Russian Embassy in Germany issued a statement on Friday strongly refuting the German side's allegations that Moscow was involved in "hybrid attacks," calling such accusations "baseless, groundless and utterly ridiculous." This statement was a response to the German Federal Foreign Office's earlier summoning of Russian Ambassador Sergei Nechaev and expressing protest.
According to Martin Giese, a spokesperson for the Federal Foreign Office, the German Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian ambassador mainly to protest alleged dissemination of false information and cyberattacks. Giese pointed out that Germany believes there is evidence showing Russia interfered in this year's federal elections, and in August, two hacker groups allegedly linked to the Russian military intelligence agency (GRU) launched an attack on Germany's air traffic controllers.
In response to these accusations, the Russian Embassy in Germany clearly stated that Ambassador Sergei Nechaev had "firmly rejected" all accusations regarding GRU's involvement in the aforementioned activities, considering these accusations not only baseless but also absurd. The embassy further pointed out that these accusations were "another unfriendly act aimed at inciting anti-Russian sentiment in Germany," with the purpose of undermining bilateral relations between Russia and Germany.
The embassy also took the opportunity to mention a series of threats and accusations by the EU against Russia, including claims that Russia planned to attack NATO. The embassy called on Berlin to "stop inciting hysteria" and emphasized that "Russia does not pose a threat to European countries," as repeatedly emphasized by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Additionally, the embassy mentioned the peace negotiations on the Ukraine conflict mediated by the United States, pointing out that this is one of the focal points of recent tensions between European NATO countries and Moscow. The embassy stated that Russia has always been willing to participate in negotiations, but on the condition that the negotiations must "take into account Russia's security interests and contribute to addressing the root causes of the Ukraine conflict."
On the day before, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also made a speech, stating that European NATO countries are "manufacturing" a series of accusations against Russia, mainly aiming to "complicate" the Ukrainian peace process and "prolong the conflict." Lavrov pointed out that "the West is running out of financial, logistical and military resources to conduct proxy wars." He criticized Western leaders who are desperately trying to "escalate the situation and maintain the war path" by promoting militarization and hyping up the so-called threats from Russia, hoping that a large-scale conflict will "erase" their political failures.
